Today my mum became an Australian. 🇦🇺❤️ Today my mum became an Australian. 🇦🇺❤️ In case you didn’t know, Mum is British, and I’ve always been proud of being an Australian with British parents. I’ve loved having our family stretched across continents. But it’s taken me by surprise just how emotional it feels to say: My mum is Australian now too. We’re both Australian. And it feels extra special that today is Australian Citizenship Day. Watching the video of Mum taking the pledge at her ceremony made me so emotional. I can only imagine how daunting and challenging it must have been to leave your home country at such a young age for “one year.” To take that leap and adventure with Dad, not knowing where it would lead. To create a new community, new friendships and a new family around you. And then to raise three children on the other side of the world from your own family. But you did it. And you surrounded us with a wonderful Australian family who loved us and took us in. I’ve loved growing up in Australia and having this beautiful country as my home. I’ve spent the last half an hour trying to find a photo of Mum with a koala or kangaroo. 😂 I KNOW they exist. I can see them so vividly because we’ve always loved visiting animal parks together, and Mum absolutely loves animals. But I can’t find the perfect one, so instead, here’s a collection from over the years. Favourite animal parks, beautiful Australian landscapes and plenty of moments worth celebrating. So cheers to you, Mum. 🥂 45 years in the making, but here we are. We are Australian. 🇦🇺❤️
I want to speak more in 2027 🎤 There. I said i I want to speak more in 2027 🎤 There. I said it. After 17 years in business, I’ve learned that sometimes you actually have to tell people what you want. And I want to spend more time on stages, speaking to rooms full of people and sharing the lessons I’ve learned from building businesses, travelling the world, taking risks, getting things wrong, starting again and creating a life that gives me freedom. Because speaking has never just been another “service” for me. I genuinely love it. I love the energy of a room. I love telling stories. I love making people laugh. I love sharing the things I’ve learned through actually living them. And right now, I have A LOT to talk about. I’m 17 years into entrepreneurship and simultaneously starting again with a business I’ve just acquired. I’m preparing to move my family to India for three months. I’m building businesses around retreats, travel and the Bleisure Life. And I’m still learning, experimenting, changing my mind and figuring things out as I go. That’s what I want to talk about. Not business from a textbook. Business and life as I’ve actually lived them. So here’s my bold ask: If you’re planning a conference, corporate event, retreat, panel, podcast or event for 2027 and you think my stories could add something to the room, I’d love to hear from you. And if you’re not the person booking speakers, but someone immediately came to mind while reading this, tag them or send this their way. Sometimes you have to ask for what you want. Did you know I’m now the custodian of Retreat Me Did you know I’m now the custodian of Retreat Me Happy? You can find us here @retreatmehappy_ And I use the word custodian very intentionally. Retreat Me Happy existed before me. It launched in 2019, and I now have the privilege of taking it into its next chapter. And I have a pretty big vision for where it can go. I’ve spent years in the retreat world as a host, consultant, traveller and participant, and I’ve seen just how powerful retreats can be. But I’ve also seen how disconnected the industry can be. Guests are looking for incredible retreats. Hosts are looking for venues and suppliers. Venues, photographers, facilitators, travel partners and other brilliant businesses are looking for retreat hosts to work with. So why not bring that world together? That’s what we’re building with Retreat Me Happy⁠. A place to discover and be discovered. And importantly, I don’t want it to be a directory where you simply upload a listing and hope someone stumbles across it. I want us to champion our members. Share their stories. Promote their retreats. Showcase their venues. Share their expertise and help connect them with the people looking for what they offer. And we take 0% commission on bookings. If you’re a retreat host, venue or supplier working in the retreat industry, I’d love you to join us. We’re still at the beginning of this next chapter, and there’s SO much more to come. I’ve been sick for 6 days now. Even the cat is I’ve been sick for 6 days now. Even the cat is like “lady, is this thing done yet?” Thankful for the cuddles & care from my boys. Influenza A is no joke peeps!
Instagram ghosted me. Yup - my new business acco Instagram ghosted me. Yup - my new business account for Retreat Me Happy, is completely hidden from view. (So I had to make a new one! Please show us the love here @retreatmehappy_ ) And actually, it’s not new. It’s been there for 6 years. I acquired the account and all the audience with the business. I’d been working on rebranding, updating messaging, growing our audience and bringing them along for the journey. Then … I get messages saying “hey, I can’t see the page.” “Are you still on insta?” A huge part of my commitment with this business is the promotion opportunity for the people who list with us. For the retreats, the hosts, the suppliers and the venues. And one of our channels goes dark. So I gave it two weeks. Have patience they say. And I can see it! This whole time, even now, I can see it! But you can’t. And thus, I surrendered. And I started again. It’s a reminder that we do not own these channels. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tik Tok (which one of my accounts is also set to “ineligible for recommendation” - I’m not sure what I did to anger the promo gods but hey 🤷‍♀️) - none of them. But we do own our reputation. Our connections. How we choose to show up. And how we continue on through challenges. It did also make me think about ALL my content and ALL my channels for ALL my businesses and perhaps … something needed to change. And changes are being made. But for Retreat Me Happy, I do believe an Instagram presence is good for us. So please do head over and give us some love as we rebuild : @retreatmehappy_ We of course have the website.
